We collected more than 1680 animals beginning with the letter G.
You probably expect to find a Gorilla in this list, but it is not here because we use species names rather than a group or common names. The term “gorilla” refers to predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that are members of the genus Gorilla. There are two living species: the Eastern gorilla and the Western gorilla. None of these species’ English name starts with the letter “G” and thus are not included in this list.
Another example is with a Goose. The term “goose” refers to a bird of any of several waterfowl species in the family Anatidae. This group comprises the genera Anser (the grey geese and white geese) and Branta (the black geese). The genus Anser contains 11 species, and the genus Branta contains 6 living species, but only 2 species are included in this list. These are the Greylag goose and the Greater white-fronted goose as their English names start with the letter “G”.
Since it’s a bit tricky sometimes we made a list of popular animal names starting with the letter “G”. Here it is: Gazelle, Gar, Gecko, Gerbil, Gibbon, Goat, Giraffe, Goose, Gorilla, Goopy, Groundhog, Guanaco, Goldcrest, Gray Fox, Gopher Snake, Golden Oriole, Golden Eagle.
